Do You Need a Minority Contractor? Torri’s Legal Services is DBE, MBE, and SWaM Certified

Torri’s Legal Services is pleased to share that our company has attained minority status for being a female-owned company. We are certified as a minority business in both Maryland and Virginia with the below classifications:

  • DBE: Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (Federal)
  • MBE: Minority Business Enterprise (Maryland)
  • SWaM: Small, Women-owned, and Minority-owned Business (Virginia)

Process Servers Nationwide

Certifications are through the State of Maryland Minority Business Enterprise Program (a subset of the Maryland Department of Transportation) and the Virginia Department of Business Minority, and the U.S. Department of Transportation. With these certifications, we qualify as a minority business for state-funded contracts and U.S. Department of Transportation-funded contracts. Our NAICS Code is #541199: All Other Legal Services.

Every government contract needs to have a certain percentage of the vendors they work with from minority businesses. MBE regulations mandate that every State agency must make every effort to award 29% of their contracts to certified MBE firms during 2014 and 2015. In Virginia, a goal of 40% of purchases being from SWaM certified businesses was put forth in 2006. Many of the contractors we’ve spoken with have shared that it can be very difficult to find minority vendors to work with.

“I’m very proud of Torri’s Legal Services and the services that we have provided to all of our clients,” Torri Schaffer says. “With this new minority status, we are happy to be a certified company that can help you and your clients obtain these government contracts.”

In order to be certified as a minority business, we had to provide extensive documentation about our company and our owner. After completing the application process, a person from the state office visited us at Torri’s Legal Services to verify that we are run by a minority. It was about a 6-10 month process, and we are so pleased to announce this news as another benefit to our current and potential clients.

We were also invited to speak at ServeCon, an online conference for process servers, about our expertise with minority contracts. You can view a condensed version of that presentation below.
